Key Qualifications   Mr. Niels Ipsen has more than 25 years of experience in water resources and environmental planning and management with a focus on policy and strategy formulation, project identi­fication, appraisal and implementa­tion. Since 2002 he has applied his vast experience and expertise as Director of the UNEP Collaborating Centre on Water & Environment established under the umbrella of DHI and has headed the support to UNEP on Water Policy and Strategy regarding UNEP’s Global Programs on water. Mr. Ipsen has further a long experience in support to international and regional/sub-regional org-anizations and policy processes in the area of water and environment. He has supported and cooperated with the UN system, Global Water Partnership as well as various Regional Economic Communities such as ECOWAS and SADC and AMCOW. He has a broad experience as manager and team leader on larger projects especially within the field of capacity building of environment and water management institutions in develo­ping countries, including training and technology transfer. Mr Ipsen has special knowledge in water quality assessments, design of environmental monitoring/ information systems and in the ecology and management of sub-tropical/tro­pical surface waters.

Working experience   At the country level the working experience comprise: Italy, France, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cap Verde, Senegal, Gambia, Liberia, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Nicaragua and Taiwan including a total of more than 8 years of field experience in Africa.
